TV Audio Settings

If you've connected everything correctly and there's still no sound, this is almost always the reason — and it's a one-minute fix.

It isn't a fault with your headphones. Most TVs ship from the factory set to output Dolby Digital, a surround-sound format built for a home theatre system. Nocs & Sound reads plain stereo — PCM — so when a TV is left on its factory default, the headphones receive a signal they can't decode, and you get silence instead of an error message.

The quick version

Find your TV's audio output setting — usually under Settings → Sound or Settings → Audio — and look for an option called Digital Audio Output, Audio Output Format, or similar. Change it from Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Bitstream, or Auto to PCM (sometimes labelled Stereo). Then restart both the TV and the Nocs & Sound base.

Menu wording and location can vary slightly by model and software version, but the setting itself exists on every TV that outputs digital audio. Here's where to look for the major brands:

Samsung

Settings → Sound → Sound Output → Receiver / Digital Output Audio Format → set to PCM.

LG

Settings → Sound → Advanced Sound Settings → Digital Sound Output → set to PCM.

Sony

Settings → Sound → Digital Audio Out (Optical) → set to PCM.

TCL

Settings → Audio → Digital Audio Output → set to PCM.

Hisense

Settings → Sound → Digital Output Audio Format → set to PCM.

Roku (TV or streaming stick)

Settings → Audio → S/PDIF or HDMI Audio Mode → set to Stereo rather than Dolby Digital or Auto.

Vizio

Menu → Audio → Digital Audio Out → set to PCM.

Still no sound?

Double-check the cable is in the right port — optical, AUX, or RCA, matching what's connected on both ends — and that the base is powered on. If it's still silent after changing the audio setting and restarting both devices, email us at support@whiteblackinbetween.com with your TV's brand and model, and we'll walk you through it directly.
